System Functions

Duskverin Functions: What the System Makes Available

An account of each function the platform provides, how it operates within the information-organisation layer, and what a user can do with it.

A suite of tools built around a single principle

Every function in Duskverin is designed to support one purpose: making structured information easier to work with. Each tool operates within the classification layer that runs through the entire system, so functions share a common context rather than acting on isolated data.

This document describes each function in plain terms. It explains what the function does, what it requires from the user, and what it returns. It does not describe implementation details or make claims about capabilities that have not been independently confirmed.

The four primary functions

These functions form the core of the system. Each one addresses a distinct aspect of reviewing and working with classified information.

Classification viewer

Displays the classification assigned to a selected item and explains the category in which it has been placed. Useful for understanding why an item appears where it does within the system.

  • Shows the primary and secondary category for each item
  • Displays confidence level where classification was uncertain
  • Allows comparison with neighbouring items in the same category
  • Presents the category definition alongside the assigned item

Category browser

Provides a structured view of the full category hierarchy. Users can navigate from broad top-level categories down to specific sub-groups and see the items contained within each.

  • Displays the complete category tree
  • Shows item counts at each level of the hierarchy
  • Allows entry into any category without requiring a search query
  • Maintains the current navigation path as a visible breadcrumb

Cross-reference index

Identifies items that share classification properties across different categories. This function makes it possible to find related material that may have been grouped separately due to secondary differences.

  • Surfaces items with overlapping classification attributes
  • Displays the shared properties that connect two or more items
  • Allows users to step between related categories without returning to the top level
  • Indicates the strength of each cross-reference relationship

Review log

Records which items a user has examined during a session and the order in which they were reviewed. Provides a navigable trail back through the session's classification pathway.

  • Captures each item viewed and the category from which it was accessed
  • Allows direct navigation back to any previously reviewed item
  • Displays the classification context at the time of each review
  • Persists for the duration of the active session

Additional tools within the interface

Alongside the core functions, Duskverin includes supporting tools that assist with specific tasks within the information-organisation environment.

  1. Annotation layer

Users can attach notes to individual items within the interface. These annotations are stored against the item's classification record and remain visible whenever the item is accessed. Annotations do not modify the underlying classification; they sit alongside it as a user-maintained layer.

  2. Comparison view

Presents two or more items side by side for direct comparison. Each item is shown with its full classification context, making it possible to assess differences in how similar material has been categorised.

  3. Classification report

Generates a structured summary of a selected set of items, including their categories, sub-categories, and any cross-reference relationships. The report is intended for users who need to document the scope of what they have reviewed.

  4. Access request log

Records the current user's access history within the system: when access was granted, which areas have been made available, and whether any restrictions apply to particular categories. This log is visible to the account holder only.

How to gain access to the system

Access to Duskverin is granted following a short review process. The steps below describe what is involved from initial enquiry to active use.

1

Submit an enquiry

Use the enquiry form to indicate the type of access you are seeking and the reason for your request.

2

Review by the team

The support team reviews each submission and may ask one or two clarifying questions if needed.

3

Confirmation of access

If the request is accepted, the team confirms the scope of access and provides the information needed to proceed.

4

Begin using the system

Once access is confirmed, users can navigate the classification interface and use the available functions.
